First meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (BS COP MOP 1)

<p>This side-event will build on the general issues presented on 25 February and examine in more detail specific cases, either adjudicated by the courts or other cases:</p> <li>Liability and Environmental Damage: The Indian Experience <li>Switzerland: Specificities of the Federal Law relating to Non-human Gene Technology <li>Liability in the context of biotechnology: Patent Related Cases in North America <p>It will be followed by a round table discussion.</p> <p><b>About IELRC</b></p> <p>IELRC has been actively involved for nearly a decade in research and policy activities in the context of the development of the Biodiversity Convention and the Biosafety Protocol. IELRC has focused particularly on the development of law and policy frameworks for biosafety at the international level and in specific countries. </p> <p>Further, IELRC has built significant expertise in the field of liability and biosafety. It brings to this side-event: The results of a recently organised workshop on liability and redress under the Protocol in Mombasa, Kenya; A background paper written especially for COP/MOP 1; A recently published article on liability and redress in Economic and Political Weekly, a leading Indian academic journal.</p> <p>Further information about this side-event (biographies, background documents, related publications, etc…) can be accessed on a dedicated website at <a href=http://www.ielrc.org/kl>www.ielrc.org/kl</a></p> <p>Food and drinks provided</p>
