Twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity
At the side event the Biodiversity Legislation Study, published in June 2014 by the World Future Council, Globe International and the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (CISDL), will be presentd and discussed. The study looks at the biodiversity-specific legislation of the following (8) countries/regions: Costa Rica, India, Japan, Norway , South Africa, South Korea, Vietnam and the European Union. It analyses how the provisions of the Convention on Biological Diversity can be implemented into law. The case studies are used to conduct a comparative analysis, and conclusions are drawn to determine the most effective measures for implementation of the Convention. The study aims to serve as inspiration and guidance for legislators around the globe to advance biodiversity legislation within their own political processes. Comprehensive biodiversity legislations at the national level are indispensable to reaching global biodiversity targets (Aichi Targets).
