An information session that will provide background information on DNA barcoding and the Consortium for the Barcode of Life (CBOL). Barcoding is the use of short standardized gene regions to identify species. It can be used in biodiversity research, regulatory enforcement and other applications. CBOL is a global initiative, hosted by the Smithsonian and supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. It promotes the development and use of DNA barcoding for research and applications that benefit society.
