Message of Dr. Ahmed Djoghlaf, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity, to the Media of the World, to Mark World Press Freedom Day, 3 May 2006

Meeting the environmental challenges facing us, including the loss of biodiversity, requires the active engagement of all segments of civil society of all countries of the world, including representatives of local, national and international media. In your capacity as communicators and journalists, you have a special role to play in not only raising awareness of the unprecedented challenges humanity faces in conserving and sustainably using biological diversity, but also the crucial importance of this for all life on earth.
