Communication and outreach are important elements for the effective implementation of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. In this regard, the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Protocol, in its decision BS-I/5, welcomed the
Outreach Strategy for the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety developed by the Secretariat and requested the Executive Secretary to advance its implementation with the view to promoting broader awareness of the Protocol and fostering the active participation and support of a broad range of stakeholders in the implementation of the Protocol.
In its decision BS-IV/17, the COP-MOP welcomed
new Outreach Strategy for the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (2008-2012) of the CBD Secretariat and invited Governments and relevant organizations to support the Executive Secretary in its implementation. The strategy aims to increase visibility of the Protocol and to inform and engage different target audiences. It outlines a wide range of communication tools and strategies to be used.
