The Collaborative Partnership on Forests

The CPF is a partnership composed of 14 forest institutions, organizations and convention secretariats. It was created following a recommendation of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC). The CBD Secretariat works closely with the members of the CPF on a range of issues concerning sustainable forest management (SFM), pursuant to a number of COP decisions (e.g. decision IX/5). The Secretariat is the CPF focal agency for forest biodiversity, and for indigenous issues. Most recently, the CPF members are working towards a joint strategic approach on forests and climate change. Other cooperation includes the development of a joint work programme with the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) and a Science and Technology Platform on Forests and Climate Change Adaptation, coordinated by the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO).

The CPF's mission is to promote the management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forest and strenghten long-term political commitment to this end.
