Description This National Action Plan for Conservation of Wetlands of High Significance in Bulgaria (2013–2022) was prepared according to the Terms of Reference approved with letter No 48-00-1503/26.11.2010 of the Minister of Environment and Water and in fulfilment of the national priorities in biodiversity protection. The territorial scope of the plan includes 11 wetlands as priority territories which at present are part of the list of the Ramsar Convention. The narrative part of the plan describes in details 25 additional wetlands that cover one or more of the Ramsar nomination criteria or have big potential for protection and restoration, but are not listed in the Ramsar Convention. The analysis of the wetlands included in the plan extends to their main geographical, physical and ecological characteristics, conservation value, threats and trends, economic use, recommendations, measures, ecosystem functions and economical and social significance. The analysis is based solely on compilation of available data and publications. No additional research was conducted.
