CEPA Fair 2014

The CEPA Fair on experiences and best practices in Communication, Education and Public Awareness (Notification: CEPA Fair 2014) took place during COP-12, 6-17 October 2014, in Pyeongchang, Republic of Korea.

The CEPA Fair provides an opportunity for Parties and Organizations to highlight their work and contribution to the implementation of the three objectives of the Convention. This year’s Fair measured the progress of implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and the celebration of the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity. The focus will be on Aichi Biodiversity Target 1:


By 2020, at the latest, people are aware of the values of biodiversity and the steps they can take to conserve and use it sustainably.

  • Documentary film When the Mist is Lifted (40 mins) explores the agricultural and forest management system of the Apatani in Arunachal Pradesh, India, and its deep rooted linkages to the community's cultural practices and festivals. It seeks to explore the indigenous institutional practices of the Apatani; like their wet-rice cultivation, the forests and bamboo management and the institution of the Binii Ajin in order to make an informed attempt to locate the pressures that these institutions are facing and to see how they are adapting to the demands brought on by forces of ' globalization' sweeping across the world today.
  • Documentary film Songs of the Forest (15 mins) looks at how a culturally significant life-cycle hunting ritual among the Nyishi in Arunachal Pradesh adapts to use of fiberglass horn bill beaks in a conservation effort to protect the hornbill population.
  • Presentation on Cultural Landscapes as a Basis for Sustainable Development (25 mins) explores the inter-connect between biological and cultural diversity and traces the fractures that threaten such communities.
