About the event

Convened by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), this flagship side event brought together high-level representatives from governments, the UN system, the financial and private sector, Indigenous Peoples and local communities, and civil society, and will highlight how actors across government and society can contribute to ensuring the effective and immediate implementation of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework in an inclusive manner once it is adopted in Kunming. Panelists also discussed the policies, programmes, multi-stakeholder action, and partnerships needed to advance early implementation.

By underscoring the shared recognition of the urgent need for action on nature, this event helped build political momentum for the upcoming CBD negotiations in March in Geneva and for the successful adoption of an ambitious and transformative post-2020 global biodiversity framework at COP 15 in Kunming. It also highlighted the importance of taking collective action to improve biodiversity conservation and develop more integrated approaches to support early implementation. Panelists announced new initiatives and highlight priority areas of action and/or reflected on how existing approaches can be improved. Moreover, the event helped raise awareness so that Parties to the Convention and the Protocols, and stakeholders are informed and empowered to take ambitious action to adopt and start implementing the new framework.

The flagship side event was  streamed live and a recording is available at the top of this page.
