Description The Sustainably Harvested Devil's Claw (SHDC) project has demonstrated that by ensuring good prices, the provision of relevant harvest management information, creating marketing opportunities, and strengthening their bargaining position, encourages harvesters to voluntarily take responsibility for the management of resource. Significant benefits from biodiversity resources can be generated and contribute directly to improved and diversified livelihoods especially of people living on marginal land and being dependent on natural resources for their daily livelihoods. It is important to have support organisations in place with the aim to promote CBNRM and help communities to establish biotrade activities. Public-private-partnerships seem to carry strong potential in this regard. The German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) is supporting a technical cooperation project of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, of which one of the three components of the project is on biotrade. The focus of this component is on establishing public-private partnerships and supporting the legal framework supporting biotrade.
