Why is GBO-3 important?

Global Biodiversity Outlook 3 will be an important vehicle for informing a variety of audiences of the value of biodiversity and the progress made in meeting the 2010 Biodiversity Target. The information contained in Global Biodiversity Outlook will provide an assessment of the current status and trends of biodiversity and will be a vital tool in informing the policy process and shaping international biodiversity commitments post 2010. In particular the Global Biodiversity Outlook 3 will serve to identify barriers to the further implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity and assist in setting implementation priorities.

The scientific information and data which underpins the conclusions reached in Global Biodiversity Outlook 3 will also be of great value to the scientific community, serving as a springboard or starting point for additional research activities. Further as Global Biodiversity Outlook 3 will be written for a general audience, it will be an important communication and awareness raising tool and serve as a vehicle for presenting relatively complex information to a wide audience.
