Global Biodiversity Outlook-3 (GBO-3) draws on multiple sources of information:
- More than 110 fourth national reports provided by Parties to the Convention were considered in preparing the Outlook.
- Analysis of the current status and trends of biodiversity, carried out by the Biodiversity Indicators Partnership coordinated by UNEP-WCMC, has also been reflected in the report. This includes advance information from Arctic Biodiversity Trends 2010.
- A study of scenarios and models regarding biodiversity in the 21st Century, involving a wide range of scientists under the auspices of the Diversitas network and UNEP-WCMC was specifically commissioned for the third edition of the Outlook. This study, " Biodiversity Scenarios: Projections of 21st Century Change in Biodiversity and Associated Ecosystem Services" [En][Fr] was also launched on May 10th.
- Some 500 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles and assessments from inter-governmental and non-governmental bodies were reviewed when preparing the report.
For ease of readability, references have not been included in GBO-3 however an annotated version of the report, showing the various sources information used in preparing GBO-3, has been made available.
Global Biodiversity Outlook 3 has been produced in close collaboration with UNEP-WCMC and according to a transparent and rigorous review process. Two separate drafts were made available for review via the Internet during 2009, and comments from some 200 reviewers were considered. The whole production has been supervised by an Advisory Group, and the second draft was subjected to scientific review by a panel comprising leading scientists from governments, inter-governmental bodies and non-governmental organizations.
