  Photography competitions
Maldives celebrates the IDB2014 by conducting two photography competitions. The themes are:

  • Species of Maldives
  • Ecosystems of Maldives
  • Impacts to the environment

1. The first competition is an online competition conducted through facebook and the winner will be the person who receives most likes and shares. The hashtags used are #WED2014, #WED2014MV. You can view the photos uploaded here

The winner will receive USD 1000.

2. The second competition is a professional photography competition, and all photos submitted will be displayed at the National Art Gallery. This competition will be judged by a jury of experts and we have received several sponsors and prices for the competition.


  Workshop on ‘National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan 2014-2025’(NBSAP) and Fifth National Report on Biodiversity (5NR)
The finalization workshop on ‘National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan 2014-2025’(NBSAP) and Fifth National Report on Biodiversity (5NR) was concluded on 22 May 2014 in Maldives, to celebrate this year’s International Day for Biological Diversity. This action plan and report was developed after consulting with several stakeholders from government agencies, atolls and island councils, NGOs, private business organizations/association. The main objectives of this workshop is to identify status, trends and threats to biodiversity and to develop national targets to address them so that our biodiversity and natural resources could be conserved in a sustainable manner. NBSAP and 5NR are also developed to fulfill the obligations under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and to comply with the government’s responsibility stated in Article 22 of the Constitution to conserve biodiversity for future generations.
