International Day for Biological Diversity - 22 May 2014 - Islands and Biodiversity

RARE

RARE

Rare is planning several activities for the IDB together with our local partners.

Rare Philippines is organizing a fisherfolk assembly in Lianga and coastal clean-up in Samal. The team is also in contact with the national government about helping with other activities.

Rare Indonesia is planning a photo exhibition and one day seminar with the government, partners and media about Rare’s 12 years of efforts in conserving islands biodiversity.

Rare and partners are implementing a Pride program supported by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Building (BMUB) in the Asia Pacific region to protect coastal and marine biodiversity through a combination of capacity building and behavior change, MPA/NTZ protection and exclusive fishery access privileges. As part of this program, Rare takes advantage of the International Day on Island Biodiversity to gather different stakeholders and raise awareness about the importance of marine and coastal biodiversity and sustainable fishing methods. Read the press releases on IKI’s website and/or RARE’s website.

Rare Micronesia is currently working with Deutsche Welle to create a special report / film about Rare’s current campaigns in Palau (which the above-mentioned IKI project will build upon), which will be released around the IDB.
