Composition of the Expert Group on Article 10 of the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-Sharing (Global Multilateral Benefit-Sharing Mechanism), Montreal, Canada, 17-19 September 2013

Dear Madam/Sir, In its decision XI/1 (Section B, paragraph 4), the Conference of the Parties requested the Executive Secretary, subject to the availability of funds, to convene an expert group meeting on Article 10 of the Nagoya Protocol. Thanks to the generous financial contribution of the European Union, the expert group meeting will be held from 17 to 19 September 2013 in Montreal, Canada. Pursuant to Section B, paragraph 1 of the above decision, the Executive Secretary conducted broad consultations on Article 10 of the Nagoya Protocol through online discussion groups convened through the Access and Benefit-Sharing Clearing-House from 8 April to 24 May 2013. By Notification 2013-014 of 7 February 2013, Parties, other Governments, indigenous and local communities and relevant organizations were invited to nominate representatives to participate in the online discussion groups. The Secretariat received a total of 142 nominations. It was indicated in the notification that participants in the expert meeting would be selected from among those who were nominated to the online discussion groups, taking into account expertise, equitable geographical distribution and gender balance. I am therefore pleased to convey herewith, for your information, the list of the selected experts and observers, which has been cleared by the Bureau of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Nagoya Protocol. A letter of invitation to the Expert Group Meeting on Article 10 of the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-Sharing will be sent to the selected experts and observers together with relevant information concerning the meeting. Documents for the meeting will be posted in due course on the Secretariat’s web site at: http://www.cbd.int/doc/?meeting=ABSEM-A10-01.
