Notification 2007-020

Dear Madam/Sir, In paragraph 11 (e) of decision VIII/2, on the biological diversity of dry and sub-humid lands, the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) requests the Executive Secretary, in collaboration with the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), to convene a consultative workshop on the achievement of the 2010 biodiversity target in dry and sub-humid lands. At the kind invitation of Italy, the consultative workshop will be held in Rome in 2008. In preparation for the Rome consultative workshop, I am pleased to inform you that the Secretariat of the CBD will hold two preparatory meetings at the margins of the fifth meeting of the UNCCD Committee for Review of Implementation of the Convention (CRIC): i. Achieving the 2010 Biodiversity Target in Agro-ecosystems within the Dry and Sub-humid Lands of Latin America and the Caribbean; and ii. Preparatory Meeting on Obstacles to the Achievement of the 2010 Biodiversity Target in Dry and Sub-humid Lands These meetings are tentatively scheduled for 19 and 20 March 2007 in Buenos Aires, Argentina and will be open to all participants of CRIC and other interested Parties.
