Dear Madam/Sir, I am pleased to invite your Government to nominate an expert to participate in the technical workshop for review of the voluntary guidelines for the design and effective implementation of ecosystem-based approaches to climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction, to be held from 20 to 22 November in Bonn, Germany. The workshop is convened in collaboration with the Government of Germany and the German Society for International Cooperation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) and with the generous support of the European Commission and the Government of Sweden. In accordance with paragraph 10 of decision XIII/4 of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention, the workshop aims to review a draft of the voluntary guidelines prepared by the Secretariat in collaboration with relevant organizations, and will enable the sharing of additional experiences, tools, methodologies and other relevant information. The revised draft of the voluntary guidelines will be available for peer review in January and February 2018, and thereafter made available for the consideration of the twenty-second meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice to be held from 2 to 7 July 2018, and the fourteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to be held from 10 to 22 November 2018. Participants will be selected amongst nominees on the basis of relevant experience and expertise related to ecosystem-based approaches to climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction, taking into account geographical and gender balance. Subject to the availability of funds, participation of the selected nominated representatives from eligible countries will be supported in accordance with relevant United Nations rules. Nominations should be submitted in the form of an official signed letter addressed to the Executive Secretary clearly indicating the name and full contact information of the representative. The nomination should also include a curriculum vitae indicating relevant experience and expertise as well as the completed HR Mini Master Registration Form (in annex) and a scanned photocopy of the nominee’s national passport which must be valid for six months after travel.
