Dear Madam/Sir, Further to notification 2018-026 of 19 February 2018, I would like to remind Parties and observers of the opportunity to provide inputs to the list of requests for the future work programme of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, which will be considered by the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice at its twenty-second meeting (Under agenda item 12. The agenda is accessible from https://www.cbd.int/doc/meetings/sbstta/sbstta-22/official/sbstta-22-01- add1-en.pdf), and to provide comments on a consultation document on this matter (Accessible from https://www.cbd.int/sbstta22-sbi2/review.shtml) which is available for review. In providing responses, Parties and observers may wish to take note of the recent decision of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services on the “Development of a draft strategic framework up to 2030 and elements of the rolling work programme of the Platform” adopted by the Plenary at its sixth session in Medellin, Colombia on 24 March 2018 (Decision IPBES/6/2, see unedited text in the annex to this notification). The decision calls for the development of draft strategic framework up to 2030 and elements of the work programme of the Platform, for consideration and approval by the Plenary at its seventh session, and sets out the steps for doing so. The deadline for review comments and other inputs is extended to 15 April 2018. To provide comments on the consultation document, please use the template accessible at the web page noted in the footnote and return it to the Secretariat by e-mail at secretariat@cbd.int or by fax at: +1 514 288 6588. Additional inputs, including any proposals for requests to the Platform, may also be provided. The official document for consideration by the Subsidiary Body will be prepared taking into account peer review comments and proposals for requests to the Platform, as well as the aforementioned decision of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services. I would also like to take this opportunity to remind Parties and organizations that, in accordance with notification 2017-134, other draft documents prepared for the twenty-second meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice and the second meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation are being made available for peer review at the web page noted in the footnote below. Annex Unedited decision IPBES-6/2 Development of a draft strategic framework up to 2030 and elements of the rolling work programme of the Platform Requests the Multidisciplinary Expert Panel and the Bureau, supported by the secretariat: (a) To develop a draft strategic framework up to 2030 and elements of the rolling work programme of the Platform taking into account the views expressed at its sixth session, including the notional timing of reviews of the work programme and additional calls for requests, input and suggestions for the work progamme; (b) To hold consultations, including using electronic media, to seek additional input from, inter alia, Governments, United Nations partners, multilateral environmental agreements related to biodiversity and ecosystem services, intergovernmental organizations and stakeholders on the draft strategic framework and elements of the work programme of the Platform; © To encourage Governments, as well as the entities listed in paragraph (b) and stakeholders, to provide written comments on the draft strategic framework and future elements of the work programme; (d) To launch a formal call for requests, input and suggestions, both on short-term priorities and longer-term strategic needs, with a deadline of 30 September 2018, following the agreed procedure and guidance set out in decision IPBES-1/3 on the procedure for receiving and prioritizing requests put to the Platform, and: (i) To invite members, observers that are allowed enhanced participation in accordance with decision IPBES-5/4 and multilateral environmental agreements related to biodiversity and ecosystem services as determined by the respective governing bodies of those agreements, to submit requests; (ii) To invite United Nations bodies related to biodiversity and ecosystem services and relevant stakeholders, such as other intergovernmental organizations, international and regional scientific organizations, environment-related trust funds, non-governmental organizations, indigenous peoples and local communities and the private sector to submit inputs and suggestions; (iii) To invite experts on, and holders of, indigenous and local knowledge to provide their input and suggestions through the participatory mechanism of the Platform; € To inform the secretariats of the relevant multilateral environmental agreements of the call for requests described in paragraph (d) (i) and provide an opportunity for the late submission of requests according to the schedule of the respective meetings of their governing bodies; (f) To provide access to all the work programme requests, inputs and suggestions to the members of the Plenary of the Platform and observers that are allowed enhanced participation in accordance with decision IPBES-5/4, as well as to multilateral environmental agreements and organizations and stakeholders described in paragraph (d) (ii); (g) To compile the requests, inputs and suggestions submitted and prepare a report containing a synthesized and prioritized list of requests, inputs and suggestions for consideration by the Plenary at its seventh session; (h) To further revise the draft strategic framework up to 2030 and develop elements of the work programme of the Platform, taking into account the report containing the synthesized and prioritized list referred to in paragraph (g) above; (i) To send the further revised draft strategic framework up to 2030 and elements of the work programme of the Platform to Governments and stakeholders for further comment; (j) To finalize a draft strategic framework up to 2030 and elements of the work programme of the Platform, taking into account comments received during the review referred to in paragraph (i), for consideration and approval by the Plenary at its seventh session.
