Notification 2007-117

Dear Madam/Sir, Pursuant to Recommendation 2/2, paragraph 2(b), of the second meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group on Review of Implementation of the Convention (WGRI-2), and further to my earlier Notification (2007-090) dated 18 July 2007, I hereby forward to you a background note prepared to facilitate the aforementioned informal consultation. This background note has been built upon WGRI-2 discussions on this matter, as well as documents prepared for that meeting, which includes: 1. Options for Resource Mobilization, Including Innovative Financial Mechanisms, and a Draft Strategy for Resource Mobilization in Support of the Achievement of the Objectives of the Convention (UNEP/CBD/WG-RI/2/4); 2. Review of Implementation of Articles 20 and 21 - Review of the availability of financial resources (UNEP/CBD/WG-RI/2/INF/4); 3. Review of Implementation of Articles 20 and 21: Report of the Expert Group Meeting on Management of Environmental Funds for the Financial Sustainability of Biodiversity Conservation (UNEP/CBD/WG-RI/2/INF/5); and 4. Review of Implementation of Articles 20 and 21: Compilation of Submissions (UNEP/CBD/WG-RI/2/INF/8). Once again, all delegates attending the ABSWG-5 and/or the WG8J-5 are welcome to attend the informal consultations, which will be held at the Secretariat premises in Montreal, the Joke Waller-Hunter Conference Room, from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm, on Saturday, 13 October 2007. Delegates who wish to participate in the Consultation are kindly requested to inform the Secretariat at their earliest convenience, in order to make the necessary arrangements.
