As you know, the seventeenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity will take place concurrently with the twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol (CP-MOP 12) and the sixth meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol (NP-MOP 6), from 19 to 30 October 2026 in Yerevan, Armenia. The provisional and annotated agendas for COP 17 are available at CBD/COP/17/1/REV1 and CBD/COP/17/1/Rev.1/Add.1, respectively. I am pleased to inform Parties and observers that the Secretariat is organizing two information webinars in preparation for COP 17. The first webinar on organizational preparations will aim to brief participants on a number of organizational matters, including an overview of the scenario note and organization of work for COP 17, the modalities for early submission of statements, updates on parallel events and logistics.  In addition, the incoming Armenian Presidency will be providing an overview of the preparations for the Leaders’ Summit and High-Level Segment. This webinar on organizational matters will be held on Microsoft Teams on 30 September 2026 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. EDT (GMT-4) and will be conducted in English only. Interested participants are invited to register via Teams at this link. All registered participants will receive an automated e-mail providing a link to join the webinar.

The second webinar will cover substantive matters, providing an overview of the four items on the COP 17 agenda that will require a first reading, namely, resource mobilization, digital sequence information on genetic resources, biodiversity and health, and biodiversity and climate change. This webinar on substantive matters will be held on Microsoft Teams on 7 October 2026 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. EDT (GMT-4) and will be conducted in English only. Interested participants are invited to register via Teams at this link. All registered participants will receive an automated e-mail providing a link to join this webinar.

I encourage all Parties and observers to attend these webinars, as well as the webinar being prepared for CP-MOP-12 and NP-MOP-6 as announced in notification 2026-070.
