Biodiversity Innovation and Solutions Fair (17-29 November)

Science and technology are transforming society and expanding the frontier of possibility. The field of biodiversity conservation can and should capitalize on the opportunities that emerging innovative solutions and technologies present. If designed and applied appropriately, these innovative solutions and technologies have the potential to significantly improve the conservation efforts around the globe and shift the direction of the biodiversity agenda and its outcomes.  From drones, to camera and acoustic traps; come see how technology can help you achieve your conservation outcomes.

The Biodiversity Innovation and Solutions Fair will be held from 17 to 29 November, on the margins of the 2018 UN Biodiversity Conference in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. It is a space where exhibitors can showcase innovations, technologies and solutions that are being applied or can be applied for the conservation of biological diversity. The Fair aims to inspire, facilitate access to, and promote the application of relevant technologies and innovative solutions for biodiversity conservation in support of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and the post-2020 biodiversity agenda.

EXHIBITION

A variety of exhibitors will be showcasing different technologies, innovations and solutions that can be leveraged to solve key biodiversity challenges.

Photo Exhibition by the Roberta Bondar Foundation

19 large format photographs, donated by the Roberta Bondar Foundation, will be exhibited for the first time at the Fair. Roberta Bondar is a renowned nature photographer and Canada’s first woman in space.

Demo version of BioStories, the CBD Secretariat’s video game

A proof of concept demo of BioStories will be available for attendees to discover. The game is themed around cooperation, technology transfer and science; and is infused with decision-making for the audience to interact with through the story, and realize the outcomes that decisions can have on the natural environment. 

SIDE EVENTS

Two side events will be taking place during the Fair, with panel discussions by the exhibitors on how their solutions and offerings are contributing to the implementation of the Convention, followed by Q&As sessions. 

• 19 November 2018 (lunch hour), "Innovation Solutions and Technologies for Conservation": with Videogame BioStories: A Game for Nature, NatureMetrics, Reservas Votorantim, GBIF, 3WAYSTE and WWF USA.
• 25 November 2018 (lunch hour), "Innovation Solutions and Technologies for Conservation": with UN Biodiversity Lab, EarthTime by CREATE Lab & World Economic Forum, Smart Parks and ICARUS.

Both panel discussions will be moderated by Tobias Dierks from the GIZ.
