Invitation to the Global Dialogue on the Role of Food and Agriculture in the Global Biodiversity Framework, 6-7 July 2021

Dear Madam/Sir, I am pleased to invite Parties, other Governments, relevant organizations and indigenous peoples and local communities to the “Global Dialogue on the Role of Food and Agriculture in the Global Biodiversity Framework”, convened jointly by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), on 6-7 July 2021. The High-level Segment will take place on 7 July 2021. The Dialogue is a follow-up to the Multi-stakeholder Dialogue on Biodiversity Mainstreaming across Agricultural Sectors, co-organized by FAO and the CBD Secretariat in 2018, which paved the way for the development and adoption of FAO’s Strategy on Mainstreaming Biodiversity across Agricultural Sectors in 2019. The post-2020 global biodiversity framework, that will be adopted by the Conference of the Parties to the Convention at its fifteenth meeting, will be an indispensable pillar of the international architecture supporting the transformation of our food systems to improve food and nutrition security and environmental sustainability, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. The Dialogue among the agriculture, forestry, fisheries and environment sectors, aims to identify integrated approaches for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity that consider growing demands for food. It will provide an opportunity to raise awareness of the indispensable role of biodiversity for food security and for resilient and sustainable agricultural food systems and to highlight the contributions that the food and agriculture sectors can make to the post-2020 framework negotiations. Those who wish to participate in the Dialogue are invited to register through the following link: https://fao.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_L2wv3QC3TPu9Uw6ch5MkXw. The agenda, concept note and further details will be made available on FAO Biodiversity webpage: http://www.fao.org/biodiversity/en/. Simultaneous interpretation in the six United Nations languages will be provided for the event. I look forward to your active participation in this important Dialogue and thank you for your continued support for the work of the Convention. Please accept, Madam/Sir, the assurances of my highest consideration.
