Notification 2006-003

As the Convention moves from a stage of policy development towards implementation, Parties have expressed an interest in providing case studies and examples of the implementation of the Convention. This consensus was evident in the recommendations emerging from various bodies including, the first meeting of the open-ended working group on review of implementation of the Convention, the eleventh meeting of the SBSTTA, and the most recent meetings of the Informal Advisory Committees for the CHM and for CEPA.

Dear Madam/Sir, As the Convention moves from a stage of policy development towards implementation, Parties have expressed an interest in providing case studies and examples of the implementation of the Convention. This consensus was evident in the recommendations emerging from various bodies including, the first meeting of the open-ended working group on review of implementation of the Convention, the eleventh meeting of the SBSTTA, and the most recent meetings of the Informal Advisory Committees for the CHM and for CEPA. In response to these, I am pleased to invite you to participate in an exhibition entitled: “Sharing Experiences and Best Practices for Achieving the 2010 Biodiversity Target” The exhibition represents an opportunity for Parties, other Governments and International Organizations to present and demonstrate the activities they are undertaking to implement the CBD and to achieve the 2010 target. The exhibition will have four thematic pillars: - National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPS) – “Implementing for 2010” - Mainstreaming Biodiversity into Sectoral Plans – “Biodiversity and Sectoral Policy” - Communication, Education and Public Awareness – “Communicating and Educating” - National Clearing-house Mechanisms – “Building Cooperation.” The exhibition will take place from 21 to 31 March 2006 during the eighth meeting of the Conference of the Parties, in Curitiba, Brazil. Participants will be provided with space where they can erect small kiosks and demonstrate initiatives, information products, videos and activities which demonstrate national action on the above four themes. A central kiosk and meeting space will also be erected where a limited number of side events and presentations can be made on any of the four themes. Parties may submit their proposals for exhibitions and presentations using the attached form and then mailing or faxing this to the Secretariat.
