Notification 2006-013

Dear Madam/Sir, I have the pleasure to inform you that, pursuant to recommendation 1/4, paragraph 8 (d) of the first meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-Ended Working Group on Protected Areas, I am convening an expert workshop on protected areas on 17 and 18 March 2006 in Curitiba, Brazil, prior to the eighth meeting of the Conference of the Parties, with financial support from the European Union. In notification Ref: 2006-04 dated 11 January 2006, the CBD Focal Points, other organizations and indigenous and local communities were invited to submit nominations of experts for the workshop. After due consideration, in consultation with the COP Bureau, taking into account the criteria listed in the notification including practical experience with protected area issues, experience with management and monitoring of protected areas, knowledge of the programme of work on protected areas, gender and geographical balance, 16 experts nominated by Governments, six experts nominated by organizations and indigenous and local communities, and two resource persons have been selected for participation in the workshop. The list of selected experts is provided in the Annex to this notification.
