The workshop is being organized in partnership with the United Nations University, in close collaboration with the South Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP). The workshop will be held at the headquarters of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), and the working language will be English. The Secretariat has received a significant number of nominations and is finalizing its selection of participants. Criteria for selection include direct professional involvement in the planning, establishment, and management of protected areas in islands and an ability to train others for the dissemination of workshop content, as well as geographical and gender balance. The list of participants, emphasizing small island developing States, will be posted on the Secretariat’s website in the coming days. Selected experts will receive a formal invitation to participate in the meeting. I thank you for your continued support for the work of the Convention.
