Dear Madam/Sir, In Decision VIII/30, Paragraph 9, the Conference of Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) requested the Executive Secretary, through the Joint Liaison Group (JLG) of the Rio Conventions, to consider the options for enhanced cooperation among the three Rio Conventions prepared for the first meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group on Review of Implementation of the CBD. In considering these options, the JLG was requested to identify mutually supportive activities to be conducted by the secretariats of the Rio Conventions, Parties and relevant organizations, for consideration by the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA) prior to the ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties. In response to this request, the eighth meeting of the JLG was held on 12 September 2007 in Madrid, Spain.
