Notification 2008-034

Peer review of the draft Plant Conservation Report

Dear Madam/Sir, The purpose of this notification is to request CBD National Focal points, SBSTTA and GSPC Focal Points, as well as other relevant stakeholders, to submit comments on the draft Plant Conservation Report. In recommendation XII/2 on in-depth review of implementation of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation, the twelfth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advise requested the Executive Secretary to develop, by the ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties, a “Plant Conservation Report” in collaboration with the Global Partnership for Plant Conservation, relevant organizations and stakeholders, that could serve as a communication and awareness-raising tool on the implementation of the Strategy. Accordingly, a draft Plant Conservation Report has been prepared and is now available on the CBD website at http://www.cbd.int/doc/reports/gspc-report-draft-en.pdf for peer review. I would be grateful to receive your comments on the draft report at your earliest convenience, but no later than 15 April 2008, in order to allow enough time for the refinement of the report, its reproduction and distribution at the ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP-9), which is taking place in Bonn, Germany, on 19-30 May 2008. Please send your comments to the Secretariat by e-mail (secretariat@cbd.int) or fax (+1 514 288 6588). I wish to thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter and your continued support of the work of the Convention. Please accept, Madam/Sir, the assurances of my highest consideration.

Executive Secretary
