Notification 2009-039

Submission of the Fourth National Report

Dear Madam/Sir, You may recall that the Conference of the Parties, in its decision VIII/14, decided that Parties shall submit the fourth national report by 30 March 2009. According to our records, your country has yet to submit the fourth national report. I would therefore urge you again to provide your report to the Secretariat as soon as possible. Please also notify the Secretariat if you expect any further delay. I would like to inform that 25 Parties have met the above-mentioned deadline and, to date, we have received a total of 36 reports. In addition, a number of countries have indicated the likely dates of submission of their reports. I attach herewith a list compiled on the basis of the information we have received. Please provide us with any updated information, where necessary. This list will be updated regularly and made available on the portal for the fourth national report accessible on the Convention’s website at https://www.cbd.int/nr4/. As you know, a communiqué was jointly issued by the COP 9 President and myself, congratulating those countries that met the deadline and urging all other Parties to meet the reporting obligations under the Convention. This communiqué is available at https://www.cbd.int/doc/press/2009/pr-2009-04-01-4nr-en.pdf. We look forward to receiving your fourth national report soon. I would like to re-emphasize that the fourth national report is crucial for assessing progress towards the 2010 Biodiversity Target and ensuring the success of the International Year of Biodiversity and the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties in 2010, including some prior major meetings as well. The fourth national reports also provide key sources of information for the third edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook. Your support and cooperation in this regard are highly appreciated. Please, Madam/Sir, accept the assurances of my highest consideration. Status of the preparation of the fourth national reports (21 April 2009) Reports received (in order of receipt) 1. Estonia 2.
