Notification 2010-109

Designation of a National Focal Point for the Programme of Work on Protected Areas

Dear Madam/Sir, With reference to paragraph A 21 of decision IX/18, Parties were requested to designate a National Focal Point for the Programme of Work on Protected Areas (PoWPA-NFP) vide original notification 2008-124 dated 23 September 2008 (also available in Spanish https://www.cbd.int/doc/notifications/2008/ntf-2008-124-pa-es.pdf and French https://www.cbd.int/doc/notifications/2008/ntf-2008-124-pa-fr.pdf ), and reminder notifications (2009-053 of 13 May 2009, 2009-079 of 9 July 2009, and 2009-170 of 12 December 2009). As of today, 136 PoWPA-NFPs have been nominated and I extend my sincere appreciation to those Parties. The list is available on the Secretariat website at https://www.cbd.int/doc/lists/nfp-cbd-powpa.pdf and the list accompanied with photographs is available on the newly updated CBD protected area website http://www.cbd.int/protected/. In order to facilitate communication and improve capacity for PoWPA implementation in all regions, the Secretariat aims to have a complete list of PoWPA focal points as soon as possible. Parties that have not yet nominated a PoWPA-NFP are therefore kindly reminded to do so by providing the name, contact details and curriculum vitae of the nominee to the Secretariat (secretariat@cbd.int) in the briefest of delays and before 30 June 2010. From 10 to 21 May 2010, Parties attended the fourteenth meeting of the SBSTTA and came out with a landmark recommendation to the Conference of the Parties supporting practical, on the ground implementation of the PoWPA. The advance unedited compilation of recommendations is available at https://www.cbd.int/sbstta14/meeting/in-session/?tab=2. I thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter, and for your continued support of the work of the Convention.
