The Midori Prize for Biodiversity

Dear Madam/Sir, Subsequent to the notification issued on 20 May 2010, the purpose of this notification is to inform you that deadline for submission of nominations for the Midori Prize for Biodiversity has been extended to 12 July 2010. The Midori Prize has been established by the AEON Environmental Foundation to mark the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity (IYB), the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 10) and the 20th anniversary of the Foundation. The CBD Secretariat serves as one of the supporting organizations to the prize, together with United Nations University (UNU) and Japanese Ministry of the Environment. The prize aims to recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions for biodiversity at global, regional and/or local level. The AEON Environmental Foundation welcomes nomination of individuals including but not limited to environmentalists, scientists, representatives of related institutions, leaders of grassroots activities, politicians, social activists and individuals who have been playing important roles in protecting life on Earth. There will be more than one recipient, and the total amount of the prize will be 50 million Yen. The award ceremony will be held during COP 10 in Nagoya.
