Revision of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) through Regional and Sub-Regional Workshops

Dear Madam/Sir, As you are aware, the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 10) held in Nagoya, Japan, requested Parties, through its decision X/2 to “..review, and as appropriate update and revise, their national biodiversity strategies and action plans, in line with the Strategic Plan and the guidance adopted in decision IX/9, including by integrating their national targets into their national biodiversity strategies and action plans….. ”. To this end, the Government of Japan has established a Japan Biodiversity Fund aimed at assisting the revision of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) through regional and sub-regional workshops. You will find attached, the tentative list of meetings to be organized with the financial support of Japan. These meetings will be organized in partnership with all United Nations entities as well as international Non-Governmental Organizations. These activities will compliment activities financed by the Global Environment Facility at national level. Under GEF-5, up to US$ 500,000 per GEF-eligible country is available under the Biodiversity Focal Area Set Aside to support the process of revising and updating NBSAPs.
