Dear Madam/Sir, The purpose of this notification is to request your assistance pursuant to decision X/18 on Communication, Education and Public Awareness as adopted by the Conference of the Parties at its tenth meeting held from 18-29 October 2010 in Nagoya, Japan. In paragraph 7 of the decision the Conference of the Parties “Invites Parties, Governments, international organizations and other relevant stakeholders, including indigenous and local communities, to forward to the Executive Secretary no later than 31 March 2011, reports of activities held to commemorate the International Year of Biodiversity, for inclusion in the official report to the United Nations General Assembly at its sixty sixth session”; To date, the Secretariat has received thirty IYB final reports. I take this opportunity to thank each of you for providing us with the details of your outstanding efforts undertaken during the Year. For those of you who have not yet submitted your report you are kindly requested to do so at your earliest convenience but not later than 30 June 2011. Please note that any report not officially submitted to the Secretariat will be omitted from the final report deposited to the United Nations General Assembly. The Secretariat would like to thank you once again for your support during the Year and we look forward to your continued cooperation as the world begins to plan for the International Decade on Biodiversity.
