Submission of views on relevant country-specific safeguards in reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries (REDD+)
Dear Madam/Sir, The Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA), at its sixteenth meeting held in Montreal, 30 April to 5 May 2012, invited Parties, other Governments, and relevant organizations to provide to the Executive Secretary views on the advice on relevant country specific biodiversity safeguards for REDD+ contained in section II of document UNEP/CBD/SBSTTA/16/8, and requested the Executive Secretary to provide a revised version of the advice, based on the views received, for consideration by the Conference of the Parties at its eleventh meeting (Recommendation XVI/7). In this context, I am pleased to invite you to send your views on the advice on relevant country specific biodiversity safeguards for REDD+ contained in section II of document UNEP/CBD/SBSTTA/16/8 (available at http://www.cbd.int/doc/?meeting=SBSTTA-16) to the CBD Secretariat by email, as a word document attachment to secretariat@cbd.int, at your earliest convenience, but no later than 11 June 2012. In particular, I would welcome your views as to how the advice in section II of document UNEP/CBD/SBSTTA/16/8 can be further summarized, with a view to being included in the discussions on this agenda item at the eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties.
