Notification 2013-060

Dear Madam/Sir, Reference is made to my earlier notification (Ref.: 2013-042) dated 27 May 2013, inviting Parties to provide the necessary information corresponding to the indicators in the Strategic Plan of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety by responding to survey questions that have been made available through the Biosafety Clearing-House (BCH), at: http://bch.cbd.int/managementcentre/register/2ndNatRepAdden dum.shtm as mandated by decision BS-VI/15. At the end of the survey period on 15 July 2013, only 15 per cent of Parties to the Cartagena Protocol (25 Parties) have responded to the survey. It is noted that the low response may not provide sufficient data to augment the baseline as established at the sixth meeting of the Parties on the implementation of the Protocol. In order to give Parties further opportunity to contribute to this important process, I am pleased to inform you that the survey period has been extended until 31 August 2013. Kindly note that responses to the survey are to be provided through National Focal Points for the Cartagena Protocol (CPB-NFPs) and/or Biosafety Clearing-House Focal Points (BCH-NFPs).
