Participation, Side-events and Exhibition Space at the Global Workshop on Reviewing Progress and Building Capacity for the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans Revision Process, Nairobi, Kenya, 11-15 November 2013

Dear Madam/Sir, As you may already be aware, a global workshop to review progress and build capacity for the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (NBSAP) revision process will be held from 11 to 15 November 2013 in Nairobi, Kenya. Further details on the workshop are available at: http://www.cbd.int/doc/?meeting=WSNBSAP-RPCB-01. In recognition of the enormous pool of experience and expertise that exists in the global biodiversity community, we would like to encourage and engage with as many partners in the design and delivery of the workshop as possible. Participation from governments and partner organizations could be through the following three modalities: 1. Technical contribution to Programme Modules The workshop will focus on three major themes, as follows: • Resource mobilization and valuation • Mainstreaming • National Target Setting; Any government or partner organization wishing to contribute to the design and delivery of a particular module should indicate this by e-mail to Mr. David Duthie david.duthie@cbd.int. Other persons attending the workshop in their private or institutional capacity are welcome to attend the workshop sessions and participate as observers in group discussions. 2. Side-events Any government or partner organization wishing to organize a lunchtime side-event should send a request to Ms. Gisela Talamas (gisela.talamas@cbd.int), using the attached registration form. The deadline for the receipt of requests is 4 October 2013. Requests received after the deadline will not be considered. A maximum of eight side-events will be organized during the workshop. In the event that the number of applications exceeds this amount, priority will be given to co-organized events which enrich and/or add to the main themes. After the deadline has passed, the organizers will contact those interested in organizing side-events to confirm the registration of the event. 3. Exhibition Space A limited amount of space will be available for governments and partner organizations to set up demonstrations and exhibits of biodiversity planning resources. We would be particularly interested in partner organizations that can demonstrate electronic biodiversity information management and/or area-based spatial planning tools and preference will be given to such requests. Posters of success stories/case studies of any aspect of national biodiversity planning are also welcome. Requests for exhibition space should be sent to Ms. Gisela Talamas (gisela.talamas@cbd.int), with a brief description of topic/content. Once the exhibition is approved, the CBD Secretariat will contact the respective organizers by 4 October 2013 to provide further logistical details. Please accept, Madam/Sir, the assurances of my highest consideration.
