Notification 2016-059

Dear Madam/Sir, The purpose of this notification is to draw your attention to paragraph 3 of recommendation 1/7 (UNEP/CBD/SBI/REC/1/7), which was adopted by the first meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI-1). The recommendation urges recipient Parties that have not yet done so to submit their response to a questionnaire regarding Funding Needs for the Implementation of the Convention and its Protocols for the Seventh Replenishment Period (July 2018 - June 2022) of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Trust Fund, and for Parties that have already done so to provide updates, if any, of existing submissions, to the Secretariat at secretariat@cbd.int by 31 August 2016. This questionnaire was initially issued on 19 August 2015 (link: https://www.cbd.int/doc/notifications/2015/ntf-2015-094-gef-fund-en.pdf), and is available in English, French and Spanish at https://www.cbd.int/financial/survey2016.shtml. Forty-five submissions have been received thus far, and have been posted on the following webpage: https://www.cbd.int/financial/survey2016.shtml. Please note that the aforementioned Expert Team on the full assessment of funding necessary and available for the implementation of the Convention for the period July 2018 to June 2022 requires considerable time for conducting analysis of all information in order to prepare the final report on the full assessment of funding in time for consideration by the thirteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties. It is thus urgent for recipient countries to complete and submit their responses, including updates, to the questionnaire to secretariat@cbd.int by 31 August 2016. The Expert Team (see the relevant information at: https://www.cbd.int/financial/gef7experts.shtml) and the Secretariat are available for technical consultation and necessary support.
