Notification 2016-068

Dear Madam/Sir, I am writing to draw your attention to Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI) recommendation I/1 in which the SBI encouraged those Parties that have not yet updated their national biodiversity strategies and action plans to do so as soon as possible and urged those Parties that have not yet submitted their fifth national report to do so no later than 30 June 2016. Both the national biodiversity strategies and actions plans and the fifth national reports constitute important sources of information in reviewing progress towards the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020. In the same recommendation, the Subsidiary Body on Implementation, took note of the analysis of progress towards the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and requested the Executive Secretary to update the analysis so that it could be made available for consideration by the Conference of the Parties at its thirteenth meeting. In light of this request, I would like to invite those Parties that have not yet done so to provide their fifth national reports and their national biodiversity strategies and action plans to the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity by 30 June 2016 so that they can be considered in the updated analysis of progress towards the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020.
