Survey to identify joint capacity-building needs for gender mainstreaming in the implementation of the three Rio Conventions

Dear Madam/Sir, The Secretariats of the three Rio Conventions – the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) – are working together to identify and develop opportunities for joint capacity building on gender issues with Parties and stakeholders under each of the Conventions. This includes an initiative that is being carried out, in collaboration with the Global Environment Facility and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, to develop an online training course on gender and environmental issues with modules on the thematic issues addressed by each Convention (climate change, biodiversity and land degradation). These training materials will help to promote consistent attention to gender issues across each of the Rio Conventions. To help ensure that the training and capacity-building activities address the needs of those implementing the Conventions, the CBD Secretariat is conducting a survey to assess understanding and capacity related to integrating gender issues. This questionnaire is intended for national focal points of each of the Rio Conventions and other staff of government offices responsible for national engagement in and implementation of the Conventions. It is also aimed at international organizations, civil society organizations and other stakeholders engaged in working to achieve the objectives of the different Conventions, at international, regional, national and local scales. In this regard, I am pleased to invite Parties and stakeholder organizations to complete a 10-15 minute survey accessible at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/gender_rio_conventions as soon as possible but no later than 30 November 2017. Your participation is appreciated. Results of the survey will inform collaborative planning and development of training and capacity-building activities. Please accept, Madam/Sir, the assurances of my highest consideration.
