Selected participants for the expert workshop to develop options for modifying the description of areas meeting the criteria for ecologically or biologically significant marine areas (EBSAs), for describing new areas, and for strengthening the scientific credibility and transparency of the EBSA process, 5-8 December 2017 – Berlin, Germany

Dear Madam/Sir, In notification 2017-086, dated 8 September 2017, Parties, other Governments and relevant organizations were invited to nominate scientific and technical experts to participate in an expert workshop to develop options for modifying the description of areas meeting the criteria for ecologically or biologically significant marine areas (EBSAs), for describing new areas, and for strengthening the scientific credibility and transparency of the EBSA process. This workshop is being convened with the generous financial support of the Governments of Germany and Sweden, and will take place in Berlin from 5 to 8 December 2017. Based on the nominations received and in consultation with the Bureau of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice, experts were selected to participate in the workshop, taking into account relevant expertise and with due regard to regional and gender balance, in line with the criteria outlined in the above notification. I am pleased to attach herewith, as an annex to this notification, the list of the selected experts. The Secretariat will finance the participation of selected experts from eligible Parties. Letters of invitation to the workshop have been sent to the selected experts.
