Notification 2018-006

Extension of deadline: 16 February 2018: Peer review - Proposals for a comprehensive and participatory process for the preparation of the post-2020 biodiversity framework

Dear Madam/Sir, Reference is made to notification 2017-124, issued on 23 November 2017, inviting comments on a draft document on proposals for a comprehensive and participatory process for the preparation of the post-2020 biodiversity framework. The notification was issued in response to paragraph 34 of decision XIII/1 in which the Conference of the Parties requested the Executive Secretary to prepare, in consultation with the Bureau and for consideration by the Subsidiary Body on Implementation at its second meeting, a proposal for a comprehensive and participatory preparatory process and timetable for the follow-up to the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020. The draft document is accessible from https://www.cbd.int/post2020/ along with a template for providing review comments. Parties, indigenous peoples and local communities and relevant stakeholders that have not yet done so are invited to submit their views and comments on the draft document as soon as possible, but no later than 16 February 2018. Submissions, making use of the review template, as well as any other relevant input, should be sent by e-mail to secretariat@cbd.int or by fax to +1 514 288 6588. Following the peer review process, the document will be revised and made available for consideration by the Subsidiary Body on Implementation during its second meeting. Please note that, as per the mandate from decision XIII/1, Parties and observers are encouraged to provide comments on the process for the preparation of the post-2020 biodiversity framework. While views on the content of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework are also welcome as part of this review process, the official documentation prepared for the second meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation will focus on the process for developing the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. It is envisioned that there will be multiple opportunities for views on the content of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework to be provided throughout its development process and beyond the current deadline. Please accept, Madam/Sir, the assurances of my highest consideration.
