Dear Madam/Sir, I have the pleasure to inform you that the Global Partnership for Plant Conservation, in association with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity and Botanic Gardens Conservation International, is convening a conference of the Global Partnership for Plant Conservation supporting the worldwide implementation of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation. The conference is hosted by the South African National Biodiversity Institute and will take place at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, Cape Town, South Africa from 28 to 30 August 2018. It will be followed by the sixth meeting of the Liaison Group on the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation on 31 August 2018. The conference will bring together plant conservation scientists, policy makers and practitioners and aims to develop ideas for a global plant conservation strategy for the post-2020 period. The results of the conference represent a contribution to the development of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. The Secretariat is able to support the participation of a limited number of National Focal Points for the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation from developing countries or their designated representatives. In this regard, I invite you to nominate, at your earliest convenience, but no later than 31 May 2018, an expert who can participate in the conference and contribute to the meeting of the Liaison Group. The selection of experts will be based on expertise and experiences, taking into account balanced regional participation as well as gender balance. The nominations should be submitted to the Secretariat (secretariat@cbd.int or fax +1-514-288-6588) together with a curriculum vitae that clearly indicates the areas of expertise and experiences of the nominee.
