Notification 2018-059

Composition of the sixth meeting of the Liaison Group on the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation, 31 August 2018 – Cape Town, South Africa

Dear Madam/Sir, The Executive Secretary has selected experts to participate in the sixth meeting of the Liaison Group on the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation, based on nominations submitted by Parties in response to notification 2018-029 (https://www.cbd.int/doc/notifications/2018/ntf-2018-029-gppc-en.pdf), dated 26 February 2018. I am pleased to attach herewith, as an annex to this notification, the list of the selected experts. The selection process took into account experience, regional balance and gender as well as potential global benefits arising from plant conservation action in the countries concerned. Additional considerations included links with ongoing capacity-building activities, undertaken in the context of implementation of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation, and country representation enabled through complementary institutional support. The Liaison Group is part of a flexible coordination mechanism for the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation, established through decision VII/10, which serves to facilitate and promote implementation, and monitoring, of the Strategy at all levels (national, regional and global). On the basis of discussions held at the preceding Conference of the Global Partnership for Plant Conservation (Cape Town, South Africa, 28-30 August 2018), hosted by the South African National Biodiversity Institute, the Liaison Group is expected to provide advice on options for integrating plant conservation targets and actions in the emerging post-2020 global biodiversity framework. Documentation for the meeting is being made available at the web page for this meeting (https://www.cbd.int/meetings/GSPC-LG-2018-01). In preparation for the meeting, a survey, available in English (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/5SLBQM9) and French (https://fr.surveymonkey.com/r/XCKD6Q5), is being carried out to invite views on the nature and content of a Global Strategy for Plant Conservation beyond 2020 and how it might be integrated into the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. Nominated experts and other interested individuals are strongly encouraged to take part in this brief survey. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter and your continued support for the work of the Convention. Please accept, Madam/Sir, the assurances of my highest consideration.

Executive Secretary
