Dear Madam/Sir, At its thirteenth meeting, the Conference of the Parties adopted decision XIII/3 in which Parties were invited to take a number of actions related to biodiversity and tourism development (paragraph 82) and requested the Executive Secretary to compile information on activities to support Parties in decision making for sustainable tourism development and rural community tourism (paragraph 111). With a view to compiling such information, I would like to request Parties to respond to the enclosed questionnaire, which has been formulated on the basis of topics mentioned in paragraph 82 of decision XIII/3. The questionnaire is also available online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/P5ZTSZX. Parties may use either the online form or send their completed questionnaire response by e-mail to secretariat@cbd.int, as soon as possible, and no later than 30 September 2018. Information submitted on or before that date will be synthesized and made available to Parties through the clearing-house mechanism prior to the fourteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties. In 2019, the Secretariat will also make available information gained from an analysis of information provided by Parties in their sixth national reports, related to tourism activities, as also requested in paragraph 111 of decision XIII/3. I would, therefore, like to take this opportunity to encourage Parties to provide also information related to mainstreaming biodiversity into tourism development, as appropriate to national circumstances, in their sixth national reports, which are due for submission by 31 December 2018.
