Notification 2018-091

Dear Madam/Sir, On behalf of the Arab Republic of Egypt, as host of the 2018 United Nations Biodiversity Conference, I am pleased to inform Parties and observers that a final draft of the Sharm El-Sheikh Declaration “Investing in Biodiversity for People and Planet” is now available in English in the following website: https://www.cbd.int/conferences/2018/cop-14-hls/documents. The draft in the other official United Nations languages will be available in the same website shortly. The Government of Egypt is distributing this final draft to all Parties of the Convention through their diplomatic channels. The Declaration resulted from an extensive process of consultation led by the Government of Egypt including consultations with the regional groups at the margins of the twenty-second meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice, and the second meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation. In September 2018, the Government of Egypt invited Parties to submit written comments on the first draft of the Sharm El-Sheikh Declaration; this resulted in rich feedback and contributed significantly to this final draft. The Declaration will be presented for adoption by consensus by ministers and other heads of delegation representing Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity at the High-level Segment of the 2018 UN Biodiversity Conference, to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt from 14 to 15 November 2018.
