Dear Madam/Sir, I am pleased to inform Parties and observers that the second extraordinary meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, the first extraordinary meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, and the first extraordinary meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization, were successfully completed on 27 November 2020. During a resumed session of these meetings held on 25-27 November 2020, an interim budget for 2021 was adopted through a silence procedure. The interim budget will allow for the continued operation of the Secretariat and the organization of meetings of the Convention’s bodies during 2021, including the fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties and related meetings of the Cartagena and Nagoya Protocols in Kunming, China, as well as other meetings that are critical for the development of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. The decisions on the budget, the reports of the meetings and other related documents are available at www.cbd.int/conferences/excop-2020/cbd-excop-02/documents. I would like to congratulate H.E. Dr. Yasmine Fouad, President of the fourteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties, on steering these meetings to a successful conclusion, and to express my sincere thanks to representatives of all Parties for their cooperation.
