Stakeholder Open Webinars on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework

Dear Madam/Sir, I am pleased to announce a series of “Stakeholder Open Webinars” on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework being organized by the Co-Chairs of the Open-ended Working Group on the Post 2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, Mr. Francis Ogwal and Mr. Basile van Havre, with the support of the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity. The virtual webinars are intended to provide an opportunity for Parties and stakeholders to informally explore key concepts and issues related to the development of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. Each session will last two hours and will be open to all interested representatives of Parties and stakeholders, all of whom will have an equal opportunity to speak. The webinars are not negotiating sessions but rather are envisioned as a space for constructive and informal exchange of views between Parties and stakeholders. The views expressed by participants will not be considered part of the work of the Open-ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework and will not be directly reflected in official documentation related to this process. The webinars will be recorded and made available on the CBD website. The first webinar in the series will be held on Tuesday, 12 January 2021 from 7:00 – 9:00 a.m. EST on the topic of linkages between climate change and biodiversity and will be conducted in English. Participants can register at https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/4978266905353168400. After registering, participants will receive a confirmation e-mail containing further information on how to join the webinar. Prior to the session, participants may wish to review the following documents: • Overview of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework Process (SBI agenda item 5), available at: https://www.cbd.int/meetings/SBI-03. • Update of the Zero Draft of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, available at: https://www.cbd.int/article/zero-draft-update-august-2020. • The fifth edition of Global Biodiversity Outlook available at: https://www.cbd.int/gbo/gbo5/publication/gbo-5-en.pdf. I look forward to your active participation in these important webinars and thank you for your continued support for the work of the Convention. Please accept, Madam/Sir, the assurances of my highest consideration.
