International Day for Biological Diversity 2022

Dear Madam/Sir, The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity is pleased to announce the slogan of the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) on 22 May 2022: “Building a shared future for all life” The slogan was chosen to build on the momentum generated in 2020 and 2021 in support of the post 2020 global biodiversity framework (https://www.cbd.int/conferences/post2020), to be adopted at the upcoming UN Biodiversity Conference (COP 15). The slogan is action oriented and fits within the context of the ongoing United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (https://www.decadeonrestoration.org/), which highlights that biodiversity is the answer to several sustainable development challenges. From nature-based solutions and/or ecosystems-based approaches to climate, health issues, food and water security and sustainable livelihoods, biodiversity is the foundation upon which we can build back better. As the world continues to grapple with the pandemic, IDB 2022 will once again be celebrated mainly virtually. The Secretariat is therefore soliciting videos and written statements from all regions of the world around the theme of action for biodiversity, and we want to know what this means to you. The plan is to roll these out across the different time zones, thereby emphasizing hope, solidarity and the importance of working together at all levels to build a future of life in harmony with nature. I am also pleased to inform you that the IDB 2022 logotype is available in all six United Nations languages. Please visit www.cbd.int/biodiversity-day/logo for more information. As per standard practice, the Secretariat is in the process of developing a variety of outreach materials to help celebrate this important event. These assets, as well as other details, will be available in due course at www.cbd.int/biodiversity-day and shared on our social media platforms (@UNBiodiversity). Please accept, Madam/Sir, the assurances of my highest consideration.
