Dear Madam/Sir, I have the honour to inform Parties, other Governments and observers that a meeting of the Informal Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework is being convened by the Co-Chairs of the Open-ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (WG2020), with support from the Secretariat, from 26 to 30 September 2022, in Montreal, Canada. As agreed at the fourth meeting of the Open-ended Working Group (WG2020-4), held from 21 to 26 June 2022, in Nairobi, Kenya, and under the guidance of the Bureau of the Conference of the Parties (COP), the Informal Group will undertake intersessional work to facilitate the work of the fifth meeting of the Working Group to be held (WG2020-5) to be held prior to the second part of the fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties. The members of the Informal Group were nominated by the Co-Chairs of the WG2020, upon advice from regional members of the COP Bureau. The Informal Group is tasked to: o review text from Nairobi meeting (WG2020-4) for coherence, redundancies, consistency, and ease of communication; o identify potential areas of technical compromise; and o for those potential areas, provide technical analysis of options for the way forward. Overall membership to the Informal Group is regionally balanced and aims to reflect the variety of views expressed during WG2020 meetings. As this is not a formal negotiation process, members of the Informal Group are not expected to represent the position of their country or region. The outcomes of this meeting of the Informal Group will be presented to Parties and stakeholders through an information webinar, and will also be submitted to the fifth meeting of the Working Group.
