Webinar - Science background for the post-2020 global biodiversity framework, 18 October 2022

Dear Madam/Sir, I am pleased to invite Parties and observers to join the Webinar - Science background for the post-2020 global biodiversity framework, being convened by BioDiscovery, Future Earth and the Group on Earth Observations Biodiversity Observation Network (GEOBON), in collaboration with the Co-Chairs of the Open-ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, on 18 October 2022. The importance of utilizing science in the development of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework has been well recognized in the negotiations of the Open-ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. This webinar is being convened in support of the work of the Co-Chairs. The webinar follows up on previous webinars and events that were held to inform participants to the third and fourth meetings of the Open-ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, and aims to update Parties and stakeholders with additional scientific information relating to the framework, as compiled by the above-noted scientific groups. The webinar will cover the following topics: • Opening by the Co-Chair of the Open-ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (5 min) • Overview of science background work led by Future Earth / GEOBON (10 min) • Focus 1: Ecosystem area and integrity (20 min, presentation and Q&A) • Focus 2: Restoration (20 min, presentation and Q&A) The webinar will be held twice, in English, via the Zoom platform, to accommodate participants in different time zones.
