Renewed resolve for cooperation among the Secretariats of the biodiversity-related conventions
Meeting on 20 February 2026 at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome, the Executive Heads and senior representatives of eight biodiversity-related conventions resolved to strengthen cooperation in support of the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF).
This meeting of the Liaison Group of Biodiversity-related Conventions (BLG) culminated in a communique outlining priorities for cooperation, notably in supporting Parties’ action for the accelerated implementation of the KMGBF—the world’s blueprint to halt and reverse biodiversity loss.
Here are four highlights among the priority areas that the BLG members identified in the Communique:
-
Continued collaboration to support Parties;
-
Continued exploration of synergies in data, monitoring, and reporting;
-
Strengthened joint communication efforts to amplify and convey coherent messages across processes;
-
Coordinated engagement in relevant global policy discussions and financing processes.
